AMEQ - QUEBEC ACADEMY OF AESTHETIC MEDICINE
Advanced PLLA and calcium hydroxyapatite Training for Healthcare Professionals
Bio stimulators occupy a distinct place in aesthetic medicine. Unlike hyaluronic acid fillers, which replace volume directly, PLLA and calcium hydroxyapatite work by stimulating the body’s own collagen-building response. Results develop more gradually, treatment planning often unfolds over a longer timeline, and patient counselling requires a different level of clarity and clinical judgment.
This course is intended for licensed healthcare professionals who already perform dermal filler injections and want a structured, supervised environment to develop PLLA and calcium hydroxyapatite technique. The course does not revisit introductory injection fundamentals in detail. It is designed for practitioners who need more than basic theory, not more content, but more guided practice with direct feedback. Your PLLA training and calcium hydroxyapatite training will be supported by online theory completed in advance, so the in-person day can focus on application, technique, and clinical decision-making.
Advanced PLLA and Calcium Hydroxyapatite Training for Healthcare Professionals
What You Will Learn
The curriculum draws directly from the course content authored by Dr. Guzzo. It is organized into three core areas: cannula technique, PLLA, and calcium hydroxyapatite, each combining clinical reasoning with practical application on live patients.
Advanced Cannula Techniques
Cannula technique is covered first because it underpins safe delivery of both PLLA and calcium hydroxyapatite, and because its benefits carry over into daily hyaluronic acid filler practice. Developing stronger cannula fundamentals can improve control, reduce unnecessary trauma, and support better patient outcomes. This is addressed directly in the course.
This module covers:
- Safe entry-point planning
- Tissue-plane selection
- Anatomy considerations relevant to advanced injectable work
- Improved control during product placement
- How better cannula fundamentals can support day-to-day filler practice
PLLA Training: Poly-L-Lactic Acid
- Mechanism of action and collagen neogenesis timeline
- Reconstitution protocols and optimal dilution ratios
- Patient selection
- Injection techniques for temples, cheeks, and jawline
- Planning accurate patient expectations during consultation
- Prevention and management of nodules and granulomas
Calcium Hydroxyapatite Training
Calcium Hydroxyapatite has two distinct use cases in aesthetic medicine, one for support and contour, and one in hyperdilute form for skin quality improvement. Both are covered in this module.
The calcium hydroxyapatite training module covers:
- Dual mechanism, immediate CaHA scaffold volumization followed by biostimulation
- Combining calcium hydroxyapatite strategically with hyaluronic acid fillers in multi-product treatment planning
- Hyperdilute calcium hydroxyapatite for skin quality, texture, and laxity
- Vascular anatomy considerations and how to navigate them safely
- Prevention and management of nodules and granulomas
- Recognition and management of complications
Practical Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, participants should be better able to:
- Distinguish between collagen-stimulating injectables and direct-volume HA fillers
- Identify patients who are well-suited to PLLA, calcium hydroxyapatite, or a combined approach
- Apply cannula technique more confidently and safely
- Plan, prepare, and deliver PLLA treatments according to correct protocols
- Plan, prepare, and deliver calcium hydroxyapatite treatments, including hyperdilute technique
- Recognize and reduce avoidable risks in advanced injectable practice
Course Format
- Duration: 1 full day
- Didactic: Online theory completed in advance
- Hands-on: Exposure to 4 patient models
- Group size: Maximum 4 participants
- Products: Authentic PLLA and calcium hydroxyapatite, no additional cost
- Completion: Certificate of completion
- Language: English (French version available)
- Location: 600 Sherbrooke St. East, Suite 101, Montreal, QC H2L 1K1
The online theory component is completed before arrival. Participants come prepared with the product knowledge, anatomy review, and safety protocols already covered, which means the full in-person day is available for hands-on work. This structure reflects the reality of how advanced injectors learn best: not by sitting through more lectures, but by injecting with supervision, receiving direct correction, and working through clinical questions in real time.
The four-patient-model hands-on structure gives each participant direct injection experience under Dr. Guzzo’s supervision. The small group format ensures that every participant injects, rather than observing while others work.
Upon completing the course, participants receive a certificate of completion from AMEQ Academy. AMEQ Academy training sessions may be available in Montreal and Saint-Sauveur. Confirm the available location when requesting the next course date.
Registration & Payment Terms
- A non-refundable deposit of $1,000 + taxes is required at registration to reserve your spot and access the online theory.

- Cancellations made less than 30 days before training: no refund, transfer, or modification will be issued.
Who This Course Is For
For Physicians
Physicians seeking to expand their advanced aesthetic skill set with structured Sculptra and Radiesse training will find this course well-suited to that goal. The program is designed as serious professional education, not entry-level aesthetics training. Doctor-facing content at AMEQ is always framed as physician education and skills development in alignment with CMQ aesthetic practice guidance, which states that a physician who wants to add an aesthetic procedure should first complete relevant training through an appropriate educational path.
For Nurses
Nurses and nurse practitioners with prior dermal filler experience can develop meaningful advanced skills in this course. In Quebec, medico-aesthetic care is delivered by nurses according to a prior patient evaluation and an individual order from an authorized professional, as stated by the OIIQ. Completing this course supports a nurse’s aesthetic education within that framework. It does not modify the applicable Quebec regulatory structure or imply the ability to practice independently outside of those requirements.
Suitable participants at a glance:
- Experienced injectors seeking to expand their advanced aesthetic skill set with structured PLLA and calcium hydroxyapatite training
- Licensed healthcare professionals working within Quebec’s physician-supervised framework
Prerequisites
This is not a beginner injectables course. Participants should already hold a current healthcare licence and have prior hands-on experience with hyaluronic acid dermal filler injections. Practitioners who are new to aesthetics should start with an introductory injectables course first.
Healthcare professionals in Quebec are expected to practise within their profession’s current regulatory context. For physicians, that means aligning with CMQ aesthetic practice requirements. For nurses, that means continuing to operate within the physician-order framework set out by the OIIQ.

Your Instructor
Training is led by Dr. Angelina Guzzo.
Dr. Angelina Guzzo is the Medical Director and lead instructor at AMEQ Academy. Current AMEQ materials present her as a licensed specialist in anesthesia, a cosmetic injector since 2014, a PhD, and a professor at McGill University.
In this bio stimulators training, Dr. Guzzo leads the practical component directly and supervises participants as they apply PLLA and calcium hydroxyapatite techniques in a small-group clinical learning environment. Her teaching role on this page is educational and physician-led, with a focus on safe technique, clinical judgment, patient selection, and complication awareness.
Why Bio Stimulators
Bio stimulators fill a different role than traditional hyaluronic acid fillers. Hyaluronic acid products replace volume directly and often provide an immediate visible effect. PLLA and calcium hydroxyapatite support collagen stimulation over time and allow for more individualized, longer-arc treatment planning.
PLLA has established clinical literature behind it. Its poly-L-lactic acid composition supports gradual collagen neogenesis over weeks to months. calcium hydroxyapatite works through a dual mechanism, immediate structural support followed by longer-term biostimulation. In hyperdilute form, calcium hydroxyapatite can also be used for broader skin quality improvement. Both products are covered in this course because both require a more deliberate planning process than standard filler appointments.
